Hi there! I’m Joanie.

My mission is to help women fight overwhelm at home and create beautiful, enchanting, spaces that reflect who they are who they want to become. Through decluttering, organizing, and design, I help my clients cultivate sacred spaces that support their unique functional, emotional, mental, physical and spiritual needs.

Like all interior designers, I adore creating unique, beautiful spaces. Indeed, I believe that creating beauty can be a downright sacred act.

But for me, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how “pretty” a space is. What really matters is how the space affects the people who use it, and whether or not it is designed to support contentment, rejuvenation & alignment.

My Path

Although it took some time for me to discover my passion for holistic design and sacred space, when I look back, it all makes sense.

When I was young, my dad worked in construction. You can’t walk through downtown Washington DC without him pointing at some building and saying, “I worked on that.” And my mom is a polarity and massage therapist, working with people’s energy and physical bodies to promote healing. I remember the day it clicked that I was essentially turning into an odd combination of my parents, marrying buildings and well-being.

But before I came to this realization, I had a 10-year career as a belly dance teacher and performer. I taught hundreds of adult women, guiding them as they developed an avenue for self-expression, an unexpected source of creativity, and - for many - a newfound sense of self-love.

I traveled, produced shows, and performed regularly. But by my mid-twenties, I was starting to feel a pull towards the magic of space-making.

I went on to earn a Certificate in Custom Interior Design at Heritage School of Interior Design in Portland, Oregon. Since then, my passion for holistic, healthy homes has led me to combine interior design, home organization, clutter clearing, environmental psychology, and modern Western Feng Shui, resulting in a unique methodology that eventually became the heart of Spirit House.
